I'd like to go a day without hearing the name Trayvon or Zimmerman...

it's annoying how hyped this case is.

Trayvon's family and friends disagree.

A new study from the University of Arkansas links "low effort thought" with political conservatism.

And part of the study showed that political viewpoints of bar patrons with high blood alcohol levels tended to be more conservative than those of bar patrons with low blood alcohol levels. But it turns out the alcohol itself is not the cause.

The researchers concluded that "low-effort thought, which takes over as people's blood-alcohol level increases" also takes over "when they're forced to quickly process information," and it "boosted their penchant for politically conservative views." According to the study, increased "cognitive load" made people more conservative, "implying our brains can only handle so much before they eschew liberal ideologies."

What I take away from the study is this: Those with a tendency to become overloaded with information quicker than the average person are more likely to have politically conservative viewpoints than the average person. And the more confused (cognitively overloaded) a person becomes, the more likely they are to adopt politically conservative viewpoints.

I suppose you'd only be outraged had a tea party member been shot by a liberal.

IDK. Would depend on the circumstances around it. I know when that liberal shot a bunch of other liberals in Tucson I was pretty outraged...

The problem I have with the Trayvon/Zimmerman thing is that nobody knows yet what actually happened and everyone wants to cast judgement on it. Maybe it was self-defense and maybe it was not, but I think everyone should let the legal system deal with it. We don't need to talk/hear about it every day. We don't need liberal news networks to splice audio to make things sound like something they're not. We don't need the news networks picking photos that help form prejudgements. We don't need people acting like fools because of it.

Maybe I sound callus about it, but every year, if not ever couple months, news networks get ahold of some court case, or legal battle, or criminal incident and hype it up for months and months and months. There's no difference between what they do with this case and any other that they do it to.

People should be talking about it and there should be a dialogue.

Selfdefense does not apply when-
you're in your car FOLLOWING someone.
When the 911 operator tells you to LEAVE that the police are on their way.
When you decide to get out of your car with a GUN.
If he was in danger he was in a CAR all he had to do was drive AWAY and then he wouldn't be in danger.

stop watching Fox news.

Typical Saturday night during summer in Chicago is 3-4 deaths from shooting. It started early this year. Last weekend was 12 or 13 shot and 3 deaths. More Chicago school age kids were killed a week than Iraq. They spent billions in Iraq and they are closing police stations here in Chicago. The money spent in one day in Iraq was more than the yearly budget for police in Chicago.

So what's the Tea Party going to do about that?

Really? A FOX news jab? seriously? Maybe I should watch NBC/MSNBC who edited the 911 calls to make the guy sound like a racist, or maybe watch CNN-- ya know, the station with "Black in America"...

Were you there? Do you know what happened?

All I know is following someone is not necessarily a provocation. If you're advised not to follow and still do it may weaken a self-defense claim, but does not dismiss that defense altogether. Carrying a gun when you're legally able and allowed to doesn't dismiss a self-defense claim either.

And a dialogue about what exactly? What should people be talking about? All the facts of the case aren't even known yet.

So what's Occupy Wall St. going to do about that?

Fixed it for ya ;)

Following someone is wrong, whether it is legal or not
Carrying a gun is wrong, whether it is legal or not

Well we've been a good few hours drinking
So I'm going to say what everyone's thinking
If we're stuck on this ship and it's sinking
Then we might as well have a parade
